Looking for a new Mic

Postby Dragazarth » Mon Sep 30, 2013 1:44 am

As some of you may know my microphone is an amazingly shaped piece of shit, so for everyone's benefit I am looking for a new mic.
I use headphones (AKG K702s if you want to know) which sound great however have no mic.

I want a mic that picks me up, and not so much my keyboard/others in the background telling me how I am a bad person.
The only idea I have at the moment is the Blue Yeti, but it is a bit expensive, and USB.

Any suggestions?

If you can find one, a Logitech desktop mic is excellent.

I have been looking at the Blue Mic's Snowball. If I could get a shootgun, uni-directional or cardioid mic then it might pick up less of my keyboard.

BTW already preloaded the beta, having Melbourne Uni's 10Mb/s+ connection helps :P

The blue snowball while good, is a condenser mic so will be a lot more sensitive to background noise. It also has a good degree of latency (I havn't used mine for a long time now)

What kind of budget do you have?

Whatever you get will be better than kems freaking mic lol

Well the latency issue I assume is something to do with the USB connection? I have a Xonar STX so I can easily accommodate a mic with 1/4" connectors

I would prefer to spend under $100 but I am willing to go up to $200.

Oh nice! Get a cheap Dynamic mic t hat has 1/4" input then! It'll kick a lot of "gaming" mics butts.

For example this dynamic mic:
http://bavasmusic.com.au/store/behringe ... p-174.html is good, less sensitive than condenser which is a positive. Then you need to move it closer to you for richer sound and vocals, so use a stand on your desk... like:

More stand types on here:

Allow $15 for cable and that's an excellent starters kit which you can add things on to latter if you'd like

Do I need to get a pop filter? or just use old stockings or none at all?
Also, Do I need to go from XLR to 1/4"?

Things like pop filters and all that thing, you don't need. It's better to get just the minimum for a start, or else you get the problem of trying to do too many things at once.

Of those mics, this one is excellent value:

That stand you mentioned is very good, but careful of the shipping price. If its too much see if ebay of that one could do cheaper
