Anime Thread

Postby SH1FT13Z » Mon Jan 16, 2012 11:45 pm

Hey, let's start an anime thread! *<(:^D

Anime discussion, your top animes and recommendations, as ive noticed there are now at least 4 people in the clan who are into anime, plus, SK is sure to keep this bumped up :)

Favourite anime so far (after whatching 30 or so mainly new animes) : Yuru Yuri
Because of the joy and happiness displayed by the characters, especially Toshino and because they want to enjoy life to the fullest, which makes me really enjoy this anime. One of my great mottos now is "I hope the good times last forever", which seems selfish since it sounds like you are wishing joy for yourself, but really just means that you hope the world will get better someday, and nothing will get worse (as interpreted by me)(http://www.animenewsnetwork.com.au/ency ... p?id=12828).

Recommendation of something you might not have seen: Asura Cryin' (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com.au/ency ... p?id=10380), Natsume Yuujincho (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com.au/ency ... hp?id=9419), 11Eyes (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com.au/ency ... p?id=10935).

Japanese culture is growing with gamers and car enthusiasts, so soon there might be a thread for other aspects of Japanese culture (such as Jpop) and this could be the start of sharing this enthusiasm with really passionate people in the clan!

yeah good idea, there may have been a anime thread before, cant remember.
As much as i love anime i actually havent been watching any anime lately. I flick through some hentai here and there though ^^;
The last series i finished watching was called "black blood brothers" i got it off a work mate. Was pretty cool. Its another vampire anime.
I did start a series before that called "bamboo blade" i was enjoying that but the same guy who gave to me fucked up an episodes were missing, i have since got all the episodes so i been meaning to get back into that. Its about a kendo club. Seemed pretty cool and funny.
I havent seen or heard of the ones mentioned except for "Elfen Lied" which was rather cool.
I been meaning to get back into Naruto Shippuuden" i think i have all the eps now(240) i cant remember where i was up to, somewhere around 210-220 mark i think.
I been downloading fuck loads of anime just not watching it^^;

But how could you watch all them long arse series!? I guess i watch heaps of short series though. Couldnt imagine ever watching anything else as long as Naruto. Even though i hear alot of good things about Bleach.
Nero wrote:What is this, I don't even.

You wouldn't be too cool for anime now would you? Just oblivious perhaps? :P
Seriously though you missing out, anime better than most tv shows and movies. But to each their own.
Yeah i quite liked Hell Girl. Got repetitive but then they did some cool things. I have a figurine of her and a t-shirt ;)
Ah also i remembered i checked out an episode of "Itchigo 100%" seemed cool. I think its another comedy/romancey/fan servicey one but looked cool.
"Shuffle" is another one i checked out which looked really cool but it was a crappy bootleg i bought in Melbourne with fucked up subtitles from some Chinese cunt so i threw it in the bin. I plan to check that one out further.
I could recommend fuck loads but i will later. I will say though you arent a real anime fan if you have never seen "Urotsukidoji:Legend of the overfeind"
I watched some "magical girl Pretty Sammy"(from tenchi Muyo) also lol..
Oh "High school of the dead" rocked.
Oh and the mention of J-pop. I must admit i've swayed over to K pop more than J pop in recent times! ^__^;;;;
Still cant fuck with Tokyo Girls style though;

I f**cken love you now SK.

I totally agree with your view on shorter anime, mainly the 13 episode manga conversions.

I also did feel that Hell girl was repetative during the first 3 volumes, but it really developed and I was glad I finished season one, I'll start whatching seasons 2 and 3 soon. I just can't go past Tsugumi, she's so awesome, the scenes where she cooked food for her dad before school even though she's so young were powerful.

Anyway, I did see Highschool of the Dead a few months ago and heard that season two would be published winter 2011 (summer here), but I have not heard anything since, know anything about that?

I did begin Samurai Champloo, but Vol. 4 at my video store was scratched! I have added Elfen lied (Lead's awesome reccomendation), Lucky Star, K-ON and "Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica" (because of this amazing remix of an interent meme adapted for the anime! http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Y2RS4pnnF40) to my extensive "to watch list"

P.S That k-pop mention back to where I posted in your j-pop top 30 countdown brought a tear to my eye.
P.P.S I saw you H.O.T.D shirt! nice!
Final note: You watch SBS's Popasia on sunday mornings right? http://www.sbs.com.au/chinese/program/popasia/?siteLanguage=en_AU

Yeah i like the short anime series but they can lack character development so sometimes 24 is better.
nar i dont know much about season 2 of HSOTD.
Samurai Champloo is one of my faves. That rocked. The OST's are dope as hell also.
Hmm i do remember that thread but cant remember pacific songs.
I aint seen them either, K-on the girls look cute but i been put off watching it, they are a band or something right?
Ahh my over sized HOTD t-shirt, lol the pic of me with wine stained lips and teeth...lol^^; Gotta love e-bay.
Me, watching something on a sunday morning!??! your joking right? Well, maybe if i havent gone to bed yet :P
I liked "blue gender", "scrapped princess", mezzo DSA", "R.O.D". "excel saga", "serial experiments Lain", "Boogie pop phantom", "somedays dreamers", "pre tear'(lol), "solty rei"(didnt finish though), "girls bravo"(also didnt finish), "my otome" and "my hime", "haruhi suzumiya", "she the ultimate weapon". "Hellsing" ETC.
Old classics; "Urotsukidoji", "ninja scroll", "Tenchi muyo", "Ranma 1/2", "el hazard", "dominion tank police", "love hina", "vampire hunter d", "golgo 13", "robotech", etc.
I have more anime than i will ever watch thats for sure. If you combine vhs and dvd i bought, fan subs, bootlegs and other downloads, geepers.
Want me to recommend some good hentai? lol
Oh and i guess we could include JPRG's in here also? man i love em but dont play em much anymore.But iam like 133 hours into "resonance of fate" crazy challenge of a game.

EDIT: heres an example of the samurai champloo OST

Thanks, haven't listened to any videos yet because im just checking in really fast.

But I also love the Samurai Champloo OST! SIlver Morning has to be my favourite, though i've only really listened to the Nujabes collections. An OST can really make an anime experience, and can help lessen the impact of poor character development in the 13 episode series', mainly because you remember how awesome the music was when the anime itself may have not been that great. Perfect example of this for me is "Deathnote", which I didn't really enjoy, despite it's growing popularity in the west (much like Fullmetal Alchemist), but had it great tense music and great themes for characters, of which my favourite ones are the Misa themes.

I really do love Opening themes though! My Favourite has to be this one from Gundam 00.

Thanks for your input SK, maybe when I go back to school my title will be promoted from Hentai King (I honestly don't know why...) to something more suitable :)

P.S I didn't realise you were into the slice of life type ones like My hime :) Most of the titles you mentioned there have been watched by my seriously addicted sister-in-law. (16 eps a day, in fact, she now reads manga because she said she is having trouble finding new anime, but now she has milked mangareader.com dry....)

So children, perhaps SK is not all hentai but enjoys romantic anime like SH1FT13Z? True gentleman! *clap* *clap* *clap*

I did download the Samurai champloo ost's a long time ago. Dont know where they are but i sometimes listen on you tube.
I find OST's really important more so in video games, particularity in RPG's but yeah they are important in anime too.
I havent seen death note or FMA.
Yeah i like instrumental music at times. I more get into this sort of stuff when iam drinking. I definitely have a wider taste and appreciate different(not just hip hop all the time) types of music when alcahol is involved. I used to love listening to anime and JRPG ost's when i used to draw.
J pop and K pop is more about the videos than the music but sometimes i do listen to the music without the videos.
I havent seen gundam either.
Ha yuru yuri looks good. Might have to download that. lol i have watched lots of animes like that over the years. lol at the last one. Pretty bad song, cute girls though.
yeah well the "slice of life' anime, i mean theres so many of them. I get bored of robots and vampires all the time and fighting anime etc, its good to mix it up. Most my mates only really like certain types of anime(if at all) , like my friends for the most part only really like the more serious anime, or more violent and cool, not cutesy , etc animes.
I mean the "slice of life" they can be VERY cliche , so similar and can so over do things and be cheesy but they're so funny. Some of them have unlikeable characters(like that one the same dudes that made love hina did with the kid teacher) but they always are really funny and fan servicey/pervy, and i guess some of them are just feel good. They make you smile and feel good and i guess can actually be emotional.. ^^;;
I dont like ones that are TOO romancey or too slow but i mean i've watched girlie anime like "Chobits", "fruits basket", etc etc.
I like almost all kinds of anime hey.
Its funny i watch plenty of anime that isnt really pervy, or not overly pervy. But i mean whilst i watch alot of anime, not hentai, and watch them for the story i cant deny alot of em i watch for the girls and the fan service lol not as bad as i used to but man i've watched some pretty crappy anime all the way through^^;
In some ways it makes me more creepy lol, watching kiddie and girlie anime^^;
But i just dont make time for anime like i used to lately but i go through fazes. i think now iam a bot more fussy and if an anime is crap i wont bother pursuing but i have found alot of anime have a weak first episode then get better. I do like "striker witches" though ^^;
I watched alot of fan subs that were cool i cant remember how to pronounce.
Back on opening themes, it is good when they have good ones you actually like, rather than just wanting to fast forward it every time.
This is a bit different but this is one of my fave opening themes. It led me onto a fantastic band called BOA.(not the Korean pop star). They a band from the UK and have two brilliant albums "twilight" and "get there" I think they have since disbanded and the lead singer went solo.

Heres some inspiration to watch urotsukdoji

man i had a crush in Mugumi back in the day lol.
Oh and your sister in law sounds like a cool chick. i got a mate at work always complains he's got no anime to watch but he likes dud so i cant really help him as so much of my collection is fan sub. Theres no way you can ever run out!
Have you seen "kodomo no jikan" ? lol..

That theme was pretty chill :), but that second video made me laugh pretty hard, I guess it was one of those scenes that would be funnier in english!

I get what you mean about annoying characters, I tried watching School Days, but I stopped after 5 episodes because the main character was a bloody prick. I swore at him and nearly went mental. If you've seen it you would know why. It made be pretty pissed that the makers would try and make an anime that would gain fanbase because the main character was like many socially akward loners that are clueless about girls. But everything about him made me furious, "I like that girl, no wait, it turns out the girl helping me pick her up had a crush on me, but i'm tired of the girl she helped me get, so i'll screw her instead. Nah, changed my mind again, i'm sure the first girl will come back to me after I broke her heart, because I miss her giant tits!"

Me: WHAT THE FUCK MAN! *ARR*

Neede that off my chest...
and i guess some of them are just feel good. They make you smile and feel good and i guess can actually be emotional..

So true, main readon why I liked Yuru Yuri!

In some ways it makes me more creepy lol, watching kiddie and girlie anime^^;

People find me creepy at school just because I watch those harem anime, that might be why my nickname is Hentai King...though it's only been said in front of a teacher once, which was kind of akward...

oh, forgot to mention, I showed some of my friends some of the picture thread photos, linking them to the whole page instead of individual pictures. Some of the people in my class who boast about porn watching now think i'm hardcore, which might also be the source of the nickname...

^lol! yeah at a hip hop forum there was a thread about Japanese girls being messed in the head, i added my input and pics and 2-3 days later no more thread, was deleted, gone lol.
iam pretty proud of the pic thread but at times its like "god dam why the hell did i post that"? or like "fuck i forgot i posted that, dam alcohol" or "man i've gone too far this time" lol
Anyway i got back into Shippuuden. Felt good yet iam feeling a little over it. Ahh "sacred blacksmith" is another one i watched recent-ishly ago that i liked.

Saw that at the videostore, R18+ Strong sex scenes, "Yeah, might as well try my luck with Highschool of The Dead", My parents were like, "you just watch anime for boobs". But then I had a rant about how meaningful anime can be and compared the morals taught by some anime to Home and Away, which probably just teaches you that most soap operas have a fire that kills off a character that was crap anyway.

I won.

^Animes about the boobs/girls/panty shots to some extent, no doubt, its a start attraction but its certainly not all about that. Some animes are of course but people dont realize how deep some of them are.
Fan service appeals to many but some people actually dislike it to the point where they will avoid an anime with too much of it. HSOTD probably falls into that category. Personally i think it was well done and not over teh top, however blatant it is. Of course some anime just goes over the top and becomes silly and tiresome plus cheesy.
I think you need a certain sense of humor to like anime and also you need to not be ahh too proud or too good to admit you might actually find a anime character attractive or sexy. Also you cant be ashamed or embarrassed to admit you watch anime but some people will hide it because of the importance of others opinions.
It is annoying how some people think anime is only for little kids or just label it as cartoon porn. Theres so much more to it than that.
I guess it cant be denied though that the teenaged male is probably the main target audience but that has changed alot over the years, just like with video games. All sorts for all ages and both genders.
Urotsukidoji is very softcore in comparison to todays hentais. It has lots of violence and girls get raped and etc but its not just a hentai it has a awesome story and action and etc.
Its old school, its a trend setter.

Prolly Mugumi from Urotsukidoji.
Hmm lets see. hard choice. Weird shit in hentai, really weird. Weirdest? Prolly shit where girls like rubber big stomach bulge as if pregnant, laying eggs but having a dick also an tentacles in every whole etc. Lots of dick girl crazy tentacle um brother sister hmm. something along those lines.
EDIT: heres a pic of Mugumi, not many good ones of her on the net. Same girl as in the video i posted before.

Oh and its Megumi not Mugumi.... Not sure how i got that wrong? completely different pronunciation.
I watched probably 50/50 dub-sub.
Naruto must be subbed for me, most definitely. Hentai is better subbed but anime in general i like both. These days i mostly watch in dub if possible but i watch alot of fan subs so of course subbed. Lots of fan subs an bootlegs so no english and of course alot of anime never comes out in English or takes years to.
Dubbing is so much better these days i like but some anime still seems better in Japanese , most definitely. Excel saga is one example of this but anime thats in the feudal era seems more i guess authentic in Japanese.
I had a Shippuuden marathon last night, i've caught up again at episode 242.

Lol, plus, before I had my subs and dubs mixed up, I much prefer subbed because the vocabulary of anime sounds better in Japanese, the english dubs sound like they have syntax issues and can't speak properly.

Most of the big name official dvd release anime dub versions all go through Madman studios in canada, so you hear a lot of the same voices.

dubbing has improved but yeah.. And its true you do hear the same voice actors and actresses alot.
Iam pumped for more anime but Dexter and Big bang theory has put that on hold. Still downloading more though.

1st ever cosplay event at GoMA (Brisbane today), was keen to go and get HD pics but was forced to watch the livestream :(. It was part of the current drawn to the screen exhibition.
Only thought of SK half way through and started taking screenshots :)
