Shadowrun returns

Postby MrSk » Thu Aug 08, 2013 8:11 pm

Any of you guys used to play the old Shadow run games on Snes and Mega drive?
Well from what i understand different mobs tried to make shadow run games, um i think there was a Mega cd shadowrun games and a pc shadow run game was scrapped and then there was the xbox shadow run game that was apparently shit.
Now, the creators have made a new one! Shadowrun returns.
Cool game man. Its only $20 on steam!!!
Its very old school style. Its lots of dialog, no actual voice actors and no cut scenes no fancy graphics just a cool story line and fun character customization and game play.
Its a turn based strategy tactical combat system. The movement is kind of point and click. The game play is basically a cross between the old Shadow run game(Snes version), The old fallout games, Xcom and to some extent Diablo(the movement not the combat).
Its set in the future but its not like lazer guns or nothing like that, still good old shot guns and rifles and machetes, etc.
The style is kind of dark, more western style animation and sort of comic book style/vibe.
Humans are evolved as far as organ and limb replacement/transplant, cybernetic enhancements, computer hacking and tech.
You can customize your character like you can be human or Troll, Elf, Dwarf, etc. Can be different classes such as Decker(good at hacking), Samurai, Shaman, etc.
So if you choose can be a hacker, a weapon specialist, Melee wapon user, magic user, etc.
Cool stuff!

Reminds me of KOTOR...
"Hey, suck my dick"
Bigfoot on how to pick up girls.
"Hey, put down that book and suck my dick"
Bigfoot on how to pick up girls that are reading.

K3m was talking about this and I was about to get into it then I realised it's turn based...

I never played KOTOR. Yeah its turn based but its not like your typical JRPG. Its more tactics and you need to set your men to cover each other n stuff like Xcom. Fun game. But yeah old school style, could be considered out dated.

Is talking a major part of it? Seems like a good roleplayer. Hacker type would be fun.

It is pretty heavy on the dialog. I just completed the game. Sadly it wasn't all that long(played it about 5 times, prolly less than 20 hours). Only died about three times and was due to some carelessness/underestimating, etc.
Really cool game but yeah a bit short.
It seems that there will be more missions added. In fact, it appears there are more already and many fan made ones but i cant figure out how to get any of them to work...? QQ

There are indeed more missions. Fucking sweet. Net been disconnected so posting with phone..... I will post more detail and links tomorrow.EDIT: ok here is a link that explains how to get around the problem/bug so that you can Install and play the extra missions/fan made content. http://shadowrun-returns.wikispaces.com/Content+Sharing that helped me figure out how to do it and realise why it wasn't working before. That link also provides all the download links . Iam currently playing "the deep one" it continues one year after the completion of the game and you import your character. I think there are some new missions where you make a new character or it is optional wheather to import or create but yeah what i am playing now is basically an expansion. Epicness.

The shortness of it kind of makes it more tempting, because I might be able to actually finish it. Neat. How was the hacker type playthrough?

heh i know what you mean i guess sometimes too long just means you never finish or miss out on other good games huh?
Well basically you can customize your character to be a good decker or you can hire shadow runners that are good for it. You(you can have multiple players jack in if theres multiple ahh ports/jack points?)
When your in the matrix your physical body is at risk so your other runners need to have you covered.
In the Matrix the game play is basically the same but instead of using guns or knifes or grenades that lower AP and HP and the like you use programs.
Instead of physical damage you do IP damage.
You have programs that you can instal into your Deck. The better the deck the more programs that you can install(a higher decker level is required to equip the better more expensive decks)
So you will do attacks that inflict IP damage there are one that target a single program/enemy or area effect ones, ones that increase damage to the target, ones that degrade the enemy and inflict IP damage each turn, programs to increase your shields or recover IP or too lower the alarm level you also have programs to unleash an attacker or shielding program/Allie into the Matrix.
Inside the Matrix you do stuff like hack in to gain Intel, open doors, active elevators, hack into gun turrets, gain currency, etc.
So you switch between your runners in the Matrix and the ones outside.
But really the combat is pretty much the same as using magic or drones or conventional weapons.
